I have a light sussex hen with an injured back, and a very swollen abdomen. her bum now scrapes along the floor as her back is slanted downwards this could possibly be from the cockeral being to rough.
What shall i do?
Should i seperate her from the other hens?
would she cope being seperated from the other hens?
Would it be better for her to be in the house away from the cockeral where i can keep a close eye on her?

please give me any advice you have i need it urgently as she is going down hill

First WELCOME to BYC! Sorry your first post is about an ailing hen.

I'd recommend the usual treatment for shock:

Isolate the hen in a confined small area like a dog crate or similar. Provide clean food and water, quiet and no bright lights (just enough so she can see to find food...)

Treat any obvious scratches or broken skin with neosporin.

She may have a broken back - sounds like she's had a hard time. Not sure what else to tell you to do though.

You can put asprin in the water for pain - do a search for 'aspirin' and you'll find the correct dosage.

Good luck with her!

thanks for your advice i will seperate her now and write more to tell how she is getting on
thanx
