Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice:
I have 2 light sussex girls and 1 light sussex rooster. Heard an awful squawking sound last night so ran outside and my two 6-month-old pups (1 Husky, 1 German Shepherd) were running around in the chicken enclosure. They both actually managed to run inside the chicken coop itself when they realised they were in trouble.
The 2 hens were hiding inside the nesting boxes and looked completely uninjured. It seems perhaps our new roo (who has been a bit bullied by the 2 girls since we got him 2 months ago!) stood up to the pups and received the worst beating.
I inspected him closely and he is only missing a large patch of feathers on his side. No skin or puncture wounds missing - looks like he was very lucky!
Left him to sleep with the girls last night as he still seemed okay and was walking around.
This morning he was drinking and crowing and (even though a bit cautious about it..) would still eat some grain out of my hand.
Should I put some antibiotics or something over the missing feather patch? I've heard dogs can carry a lot of bacteria etc. Plus the weather is very wet here at the moment.. I wonder if it would get muddy and infected??
Thank you!!
