So my coop is not going to be very close to the house. Is there a way to light it besides using a very long extension cord? Are there battery powered lights that would be bright enough? Also, if my birds are grown do they still need a heat light in the winter?

Where do you live? What breeds of chicken do you have?

I do not supply heat for my Michigan girls.

You can buy solar powered lights on a timer.

I'm going to use solar powered lights.

Do you just want a light you can turn on when you want to work in the coop after dark (battery-operated or solar is good, or frankly a headlamp is wonderful for that!) or do you want something you can put a timer on to extend daylength in wintertime? I am not sure anyone here has SUCCESSFULLY put a timer onto a battery or solar light (I could be wrong, so you should research it more)

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

I am wanting a light both for working in the coop and for extending daylight. I like the idea of solar powered but am wondering how that would work out.

My experience with solar lights is that they weren't bright enough. And to buy the better quality lights was prohibitively expensive.

I ran electricity to my coop. But I also heat 24/7 in the winter and power a heated water dish and a 60 watt timed light for laying.
