Lighting for baby chicks....

I read too about lowering the heat but didnt know exactly when to. It's still very cold in my garage so I just figured if they were not cold they wouldnt lay under it?

IMO , any light that will give you the right temp. is fine. There have been times a 250 watt light is TOO MUCH. I've used 60, 75 and 100 watt bulbs.

I have some chicks that I raise inside with hot water bottles that way they get natural sunlight during the day and darkness at night- the way nature intended. I boil water or use really hot water from the sink and fill up two metal water bottles and screw on the lids really tight then cover them with socks and pop em in the brooder on their side so the chicks can roost on them. I keep it in a hot room in my house and change the bottles every four hours or as needed. I'm just newly trying this and so far so good. I don't quite know what they mean by delaying maturity but I do know that raising the chicks without artificial light will help them get their feathers faster. hope this helps good luck!
