Lighting for chicks red vs white

Hi!
In the past I have used a basic white light for the brooder, but it sounds like a red heat lamp is a good option too. Do you feel like on or the other is a better option? What wattage would you recommend for the red heat lamp--40watt, 60watt?
Also, how long do you recommend keeping the light on for? I can't really remember how long I used to keep the light on--I think maybe 24hrs for the first couple days, and then I would turn it off at night?
Any comments much appreciated!!

I have a red light and never used a white light before so I don't know the differences. The red light is good for many reasons 1 of them is if a chick is bleeding the other chicks won't peck at it since everything looks red. I use my light 24 hours until they are almost a month.

Use red, it helps to keep your birds less aggressive as well. They can rest more when they need too with red lights.

They are 175 watts, you want them rated for the bathroom/barn use. If you get the other ones, the red washes off when cleaning your bulbs
