Lighting question for my coop

Right now I have a 12 x 18 coop, like a shed, really, with three windows that do not open. The middle window has a hardware cloth screen. My question is, what wattage of light should I put in there for the winter to have my 12 pullets lay all year round? I have a timer set for 14 1/2 hours of light, and the light in there is a small energy-saver spiral one equal to 60 watts. The ceiling is like 8 feet high; is tis enough light?

They don't need a lot of light. As one of the experts on here said, if you can read a newspaper, it is enough light. I'd think what you have is plenty.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I never needed to supplement with light last winter. My 4 buff orps laid better in the chilly weather than they're laying in the dog days of summer... Maybe it depends on the breed?

Same here; I didn't supplement and I got more eggs in the winter out of some Ameracunas and BR's.
