Ok, my babies are due Aug 7th and Im getting the nursery ready....Im set to go except for the light, regular light bulb, what wattage?...red light better?...any ideas here?

Im so excited, just turned off my turner and watching humidity...first time Im doing this...waiting on 32...know they all wont hatch...from what Im reading....but Im ready for whatever god gives me...

I like a red light better- some use a 250 watt heat lamp, I tried it and it was too hot. I now use a red 100 watt outdoor flood lamp, just raise it as it gets too warm for them.

Happy hatching!

Depends on the environment. Indoors or out? What's the temp of the room or building?

Try a 100W light bulb and put a thermometer in there and see what you get. Remember the chicks themselves will heat it up a little in there.

It's worth it to pick up an inexpensive thermometer if you don't have one, just to know it's about where you want it.

Don't overheat them.

I was told that the red light helps to stop them from pecking on each other as bad as they would with a regular white light. I just got my chicks today and I bought a 100 watt red flood light from Home Depot for about 6 bucks. This red flood light works perfectly and I can raise it higher off of them to make the temp lower. Right now it makes it perfect at 95 degrees and my chicks are perfect. I have a thermometer in there brooder at the bottom so I know how hot it is. You are supposed to start at 95 degrees then lower it 5 degrees every week. All along watching your chicks to make sure they are happy. Hope some of that helps.
