To a large degree chickens' hormone production is affected by daylength. A minimum of 14 hours of daylight seems to provide best hormone levels and egg production. By providing artificial lighting to increase daylength to approx. 14 hrs/day through the winter, you can increase egg production.

Hi,

Yes, chickens lay based on daylight. Most animals respond to day light, including mammals. Just put a light w/ a timer in there.

The lights in the pen/coop does work. We had gone for about 3 months without one single egg. Within a week of stringing two strings of white LED christmas lights on a timer inside the coop and run, we are now getting 4 to 7 eggs a day from our 8 layers.
