The chicks are in two brooders in the boiler room. There are no windows in the room. They obviously have their heat lamps on, but should i leave the room lights on all day and off all night, or on part of the day/off part of the day?

I don't think it really matters when they're young (1-3 weeks old) you don't need to be too concerned about teaching them 'night and day'. If you WANT to, you can keep the light on during the day and turn it off at night. I have mine in my garage, which has no windows. I keep the light on during the day and turn it off at night, but that's more of a conveinence for me since I go in frequently to check on them, get feed for the big chickens, store gardening tools, etc... I don't want to startle them by turning the light on 40 times a day

I;m not worried about the night and day thing I just don't want to bother them, like you said, with bright lights going on and off all day long, or have it be too bright for them to sleep well enough. although they keep flopping down and falling asleep every few minutes anyway

my chicks are in my hubby's shop with no windows but one wall is fiberglass siding so they get light thru it so the only light they get is the brooder light and my big girls(6 weeks old) only get the light that comes from teh brooder light and what light comes thru the fiberglass and when i turn on the light to see to feed and clean things up
