Hello everyone!

Please help me. No one at my house is handy.

I am dividing a pen that we have (a huge, unused dog run). The run is 6' chainlink fence. I would place a secure house in the run and cover with hawk net. The run is so large that I only want to use the end of it. So I have an area with fence on three sides. I only need a fence and gate on the fourth side. My idea is to get those green posts that hammer into the ground and a roll of fencing. I am stumped as to what I should use for a gate. Could I make a gate out of PVC with wire zip-tied to it? Mind you, my goal is poultry containment only, as the area will be pretty secure during the day & the birds will be locked up at night.

Ideas and/or photos of your homemade solutions are much appreciated!

The thing is it still has to be predatorproof, right? In which case the *simplest* thing would be to get an already-framed chainlink gate like they sell to go along with chainlink dog kennels. Or if that is over budget or you don't happen to have one lying around, put a 4x4 pressure-treated post in the ground, about 3' away from one of your corner posts, and use it as a gatepost. It needs to be AT LEAST 2.5' into the ground, 3' is a whole lot better. Then knock together a gate out of 2x4s or 1x6s and wire, and hinge that on, making sure it is secure and cannot be bowed or 'sprung' to let a predator in.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Advertise Craigslist for the parts you need... I would go with the same thing as you already have...Offer an egg trade or whatever... maybe some hatching etc... Should set you back about 25 bucks or so depending.

I googled the detroit area for chainlink... and there is a boatload of postings... for whole kennels... one for 110.. that is a smokin deal.. you could sell it back off in pieces or just run your own ad.... good luck!!
