New Chicken Coop placement questions

Good, unless you're taller than that. The top of your head and your back will thank you for a walk in, stand up in, coop and run.

Noise: Only 3 of my 10 hens make much noise on a regular basis. The rest rarely make much sound at all. I find their noises pleasant to listen to, but every bird and every flock is different.

Smell: I scoop poop off the poop boards every morning. I use sweet PDZ. Unless someone has just dropped a cecal poop, or I have the lid off the poop bucket, I don't smell much at all. I attribute that to scooping, PDZ, and good air flow.

Flies:
I put two of these away from the coop/run, and away from our house and front porch. I rarely saw flies anywhere nearby. Be sure they are downwind and away from your house/deck, because they STINK!! like rotting meat.

Thanks for the POP Fly trap recommendation. Will 100% get a few of those and posted away from the coop.

The last group of chix I had, I used the poop boards and PDZ method. Worked great and I didn't notice too much of an odor.

I am right at 6' so some slight stooping when cleaning and feeding but overall shouldnt be too bad. Been working on the soil in the run this week and I can stand straight up without smacking my noggin.

Thanks!

It's a good method. Will you use it this time around?

How did you "work" it?
Hope you didn't make it lower than the surrounding ground, could cause it to hold water.
Make the roofs extend well beyond the walls and deck edge for good rain diversion.

Aart,

Yes, it worked great before so no reason to change the clean up method.

I raked out the dirt and added about 100# of sand to help with drainage.

Appreciate the input!
