After months of waiting and permit approval, I've got my baby chicks!

They are in a kid swimming pool for their brooder on the front porch. They are very sleepy during the days, and I've discovered why: the brooder light attracts all sorts of little bugs, and the girls chase bugs and catch bugs and eat them. It is adorable and entertaining! I put chick grit in a bowl for them, what with all the bug munching!

I just love watching chicks chase bugs. That would keep me up half the night with my lawn chair pulled up close!

A permit.
Wow.
Nothing like having layers and layers of government intrusion to wade through to do something simple like having a few chickens. I'll bet
you had to pay for that "permit" too didn't you. Our grandparents would have had a fit.

Good luck with the little dudettes. They will be great fun.

I think it's kind of cool that you could even get a permit. Ten years ago most city ordinances said NO CHICKENS, NO GOATS, NO LIVESTOCK WHATSOEVER within city limits. The cycle is actually reversing itself as people are getting more aware of the benefits of sustainable agriculture and so forth.
