Gosh I feel like all my girls are either dying or having health issues. Most of them were old but lilly is only about 18 months old or so.
She is a large and otherwise healthy Maran. A few days ago I noticed she was "acting odd?" For example when I shooed them all into the coop she "crashed into the shed?" She has been a little strange in that she was not trying to eat and this morning she was "getting the water" but was more feeling for it rather than seeing it. This has onyt been in the last two or three days. Yesterday her face seemed a bit swollen and so I brought her in and looked at her eyes. Just in case she had something in them? She has weird mucus like half desolved gloucouse sheets comming from her eyes. Her face seems swollen on both sides under the eyes.
I cleaned her eyes best I could and left her out with the other girls. Today I noticed she has some mucus over one eye and again is finding it hard to see.
Could she have had an injury. I know the shed door blew shut about three days past and I worry incase she got hit by it but has no other injury?
I am kind of in a bit of a panic over her because I just lost Aggy and Isobel - so I am real low on hens. I still have little Betty but she no longer lays and is always sick with a respiritory infection this time of year. The twins ( Marans Lilly-Beth and Gwendaline) They lay real well usually. Their eggs are wonderful for cooking etc. Then the only other one I have is the rescued PR Marigold. Who thinks she runs the place and since the death of Issy and Bettys incapasitation has taken on the whole troop! So She is now head girl even though she is the most recent girl here. (The twins being too stupid to care!) So I really don;t want to lose another hen especially one of the young ones.
Any ideas what could be going on with her and has anyone else had this with a bird????
Oes
