Lilly my Ameraucana that has never laid a egg....ideas

I also have an ameraucana who is 14 months old and has never laid an egg, she is very healthy, eats well, free ranges all day. I just lost a hen to egg peritonitis (internal laying) so i know the syntoms. My other 5 ameraucanas have been laying for months now. I am sure she is not laying anywhere else, i also have a CCTV camera in the coop and she has never been in the nesting box. I will continue to watch her, maybe one of these days. She is a wheaten ameraucana and she is beautiful.

Check her vent to be sure . If laying it will be large pliable and moist . If not then she has a problem preventing her from laying . Her comb looks like she should be laying .

I have a wheaten she lays beautiful deep green eggs. I got her the same time I got Lilly. Also lilly has never started the proverbial squat like the others. Instead I call it hiding. When she sees me coming she lays down completely like she is hiding and waits for me to pick her up.. Just odd. Because as I say, she shows NO sign of illness like internal egg laying. She has beautiful feathers that are shiny.

I will check her vent this evening when I get home. To do this just look inside a little? Never done this before.........

Look at one that is laying then look at the hen in question . Not really looking inside but maybe stretch a little . Should be large enough for a egg to stretch through .

The behaviour you are referring to as ' hiding ' sounds more like ' presenting ' , as she would to a roo. I have one that has always presented to me.

I went out to check all my brood. And looked at each hens vent that is laying and compared it to Lilly's vent. Lilly's vent is not moist at all. It is very dry.

I am very curious now, i will check Esperanza's vent on friday when i get home. I love your idea of hanging lettuce on a stick, i will try that since I am always trying things to keep them entertained. Let us know if Lilly lays an egg
