Lily pads as feed

I would like to feed my birds lily pads to help supplement their diet. I have a pond that is half covered with pads and I need to thin them out. I want to make sure that there are no toxins in lily pads, stalks, or tubers that will harm the chickens. I don't want to experiment for fear I could lose any birds I tested the lily pads on.
Any help would be appreciated. If you have experience with doing this let me know what you do to feed the pads. If you know of a link where I can get more information, that would be great also.

I've been told, it is illegal, in some areas, to harvest lily pads. I don't know about where you are and about private ponds. Something to check.
