lime in the chicken coop

i was wondering about putting lime down in the chicken pen to help with the smell. is this a bad idea? will the chickens get sick? what other options do i have?

You can try doing a search here on BYC for lime. I haven't used it. I use sweet PDZ. I have also used DE, but you must be very careful not to breathe it in.

There is a website for sweet PDZ (sweetpdz.com) and it explains using it for chickens. I purchase it at the feed store.
