Lime Or D.e.?

Which is more useful for controlling smell and flies and wet? Sand with DE mixed in or Lime? Do they do the same thing?

Is this for inside the coop, or in the run?

This is what I do. In the coop I use wood shavings with DE. I have a fly bait thingy that keeps flies from entering the coop.

In the run, if it gets really muddy, I add sand or wood bark/shavings. In the early spring or fall, I rake wood ashes into the dirt, it acts like lime. If you don't burn wood, use lime.
