Im a food purist, I try not to feed my family processed food (Michael Pollen is my hero), so I don't want to feed my Chickychicks processed food

My daughter is going to be in charge of the Mealworms (great science for the homeschooler, and the mealworms freak me out

) and together we will do the fodder. My question is, will this be enough nutrition? or do I have to supplement with some kind grain, preferably not some processed mixture that the big food companies tell me is good for my chickens.

Here are links to a homemade chicken feed mix courtesy of 'Garden Betty.'

and one that doesn't use corn...

I've not used either but they are the recipes I'm considering using once my chicks age enough to switch to conventional feed, since it uses a lot of the products we use in our every day groceries anyway. I've also just began fermenting my chicks feed and will likely continue to do so in the future with either the recipe(s) above, or another non-gmo/processed organic feed, so that the fermenting process (chickens allegedly eat less of the feed and waste less) can offset the cost of the higher priced feed options.

Thank You for the recipes...so I will also provide feed, along with the mealworms and fodder.
