Limits on pets in small NC town....

In some way I feel they are trying to take away these peoples rights. It's just not fair. There's no town in NC where there's wild pets running the streets scaring kids. That's just new people coming into that town and wanting to change people's way of life...and they have NO RIGHT to do that. IMO

Silly question, I know when I was in South Carolina, which geographically speaking would make it even more backwards then North Carolina they had leash laws. If these streets are being roamed by wild animals get someone out there to catch them,if they are not wild fine the owners and they will either start keeping thier animals inside or animal control will get rid of the uncontrolled animals. Thus no more wondering animals and the problem is solved, OR is it every animals right to wonder the streets whenever its uncaring owner decides to open the door and let them be free for a couple of hours. Now I know this is harsh but if these free roaming animals wonder into your backyard and decide to have chicken dinner THEN something needs to be done the illresponsible owner should be tarred and feathered and have to pay to replace the missing/injured chickens.

We do have leash laws here. That's why I don't understand them wanting to limit the amount of pets someone has.

Maybe it's that people are afraid of the BREEDS of dogs people have. NC is like the pit bull capital of the world. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with pits it's just that there's a lot of people that are scared of them, EXcluding myself. People in NC (most of the south really) just love pit bulls and boxers and people moving here from other states (and urban areas) must be scared that there's a pit in 3 out of 10 yards.

I dont think people worry so much about dogs Even pits if they are on a leash, so maybe enforce the laws that are already in place instead of making new ones that probably wont be inforced either.

Exactly!!

Most animal problems would be solved if existing leash, cruelty and nuisance laws were only enforced. It's just like the guy with the sheep in Apex. Instead of enforcing animal cruelty and neglect and nuisance laws before it was too late, they waited until it was a huge problem and just said, "OK, no more farm animals in Apex." Because one man had 80 abused sheep living (and dying) in his house on 1/3 acre, now no one can have even one animal considered livestock (except horses, horses are OK for some reason).

The Raleigh News and Observer made a suggestion for pet limits as a means of preventing dog fighting. Made my blood boil. Dog fighting is already a felony. Do they really think someone involved in dog fighting is worried about breaking a pet limit law?

More places than a lot of people realize have pet limits already in place. Some are enforced, some aren't. Cary had a two dog limit for years until they tried to enforce it against a lady who had petitioned to have the law changed. The DA's office refused to prosecute on grounds that the law might be unconstitutional, I believe. So they dropped the law. The only thing they've ever done right in Cary, IMO.

I bet that's exactly what they are really trying to accomplish. They have a hard time going after breeds like pits, so they say "pets" and then they can get away with this BS policy.
