I will not give up on chicken raising.. I will not give up on chicken raising…

I got my first chicky babies last week. They are brooded inside for now. I got 5 Rhode Island reds and 5 barred rock. Within 48 hours, 2 of the Rhode Island’s died.. (heart break). Now one of the Rhode Island’s are limping and the top of her foot is slightly red (nothing on the bottom). Her foot slightly goes out to the side when she stands, but she tries to keep it pulled up to her body.

Chicks have electrolyte water and medicated feed. The barred rock girls are all 100% but the other girls are giving me a run for my money.

Welcome To BYC

Can you please provide some photos of your brooder setup.
What do you feed including treats?
What is the temperature in the brooder on the cool side and on the warm side.
Purina chick starter (medicated). No treats yet. Cool side of brooder where food and water sits is about 77 and under warmer is 95-97. (The warming plate is close to the food/water. Bottom is pine shavings covered in puppy pads. Plan was to remove the puppy pads after a week or so to just the savings. (Pads are changed frequently).
