I have a hen who I noticed was limping today. Upon inspection I noticed that the pad of her foot was hot and swollen and there appeared to be a puncture wound in the middle of it. First of all, how do I treat something like that? Peroxide? Antibiotic ointment? I have no clue. Secondly, are her eggs safe to eat if she has an infection like that?

Can you post a picture of her foot pad? You can soak her foot in warm Epsom salt and water. A little sugar and a few drops of Betadine can be applied to the foot pad with a bandage and changed every couple of days to draw out infection. This can lead to bumblefoot if not treated.
