limping guinea

One of my guineas was frightened this morning and flew/fell off the perch, crashing into the wire fence. She is limping slightly, lays down a lot, and is favoring her right leg. It also looks a little swollen. Is there anything I could do to help it heal/help her feel better? Would soaking the leg in something, maybe Epsom salts or something, help? Thanks. She's the one guinea I raised, alone, from a chick, so she's very friendly and special and I want to help her feel better. It was the sheep that scared her; that big wooley thing is always trying to get into the coop to get grain.

My favorite white guinea was attacked and crippled very simular to yours. Mother nature and time brought her back to normal. Mine could only lay around for five days then started limping. Good luck with yours

She's probably just sore, and will effectively baby herself until she heals. You can soak her in an epsom salt bath if you want to, and double check the leg to make sure is not broken. You can also give her a half of a baby aspirin (or the equivalent in drop/liquid form) twice a day if you feel she really is in that much pain. Guineas are pretty resilient and do pretty good at healing on their own tho, as long as she is not cut/wounded and infection can set in. Keeping her confined in a crate to limit her movement and use of the sore leg for a few days (inside the coop/pen where the other birds can see her and vise versa) would possibly help her heal faster, but she may be more upset by that and just pace to get out...

Good luck with her.
