Limping hen with possible scaly leg mites

She's definitely holding it up and not wanting to put any pressure on it. My guess is that it's broken or dislocated. Could be a pinched nerve? Or maybe arthritis, but, I don't think she'd be holding it up like that. If you want conclusive answers, I'd seek out a vet.

Ok, thanks for your input and responses. Poultry or even avian vets are far and few between unfortunately. But I will keep looking!

Right - we are stumped at which it is. Trying to search for an avian vet near us to get some concrete answers.

And this sounded similar - the vet suggested metacam which is for pain relief. If you can't access that then 5 aspirin to 1 gallon of water can help chicken's with pain.

Shecappears to be avoiding putting weight on it due to pain. My opinion is it’s an injury. Have you palpated her entire foot, hock, leg and thigh? I suspect she’ll flinch in pain when you find the right spot. She may just need time to heal.
