Limping Hen

Good afternoon all. Rosemary, the almost 1 year old Buff Orpington hen, is limping. She is still putting weight on both legs but walks with a slight limp. I've examined her foot pads, moved her legs, checked her toes, and I don't see or feel any obvious injury, heat, etc. She's still eating, drinking, digging, and doing her usual chicken stuff, she's just doing it with a limp. I wanted to see if there were any recommendations as far as trying to determine the issue and what I can do to help her.

This sounds exactly like what has been going on with one of my ten hens. Limping but otherwise normal. Have you found any answers in the past month?

I wish I had better suggestions but no, not really! She limped for a couple of days and then it seemed to resolve. I already had her scheduled in for a wellness exam with her vet and they said all looked and felt normal during that. She's definitely my poofiest girl so I think she may have just landed wrong. Best of luck to your hen! If you can, a few days of separation and rest may be the way to go.

Limping hen?
Anyone know why my hen is limping like this? I checked the bottom of her feet and I didn’t see any cuts or signs of bumble foot. Maybe she sprang it some how? She’s eating, drinking, laying eggs fine. She is bigger than the rest and doesn’t really get messed with, usually all the others just move away when she comes near them. Should I separate her? Give her electrolytes and vitamins? Niacin? Thank you.

One of my hens has had a slight limp for a couple of months. I've have researched online practically everything and everywhere and honestly, as long as limping is the ONLY symptom, I think there's not much we can do. I check every day for signs of something, anything really, but until she's acting like it's impeding her or making her a target for others, I honestly think the best thing we can do is leave them. I have been carrying her, when she'll let me, to the back of our ppty when the other go there (she's lately been staying by the coop) and trying to get some pressure off her legs (she doesn't tolerate this for very long), and there are days that she'll let me carry her both ways and days that she would just run away ~ I stop dead of I think that she thinks I'm going to chase her, her limp is bad enough, let alone making her run on it. I have been watching to make sure she can still get up to roost (I'll make a ramp if she starts to struggle). She is not dragging it, or favouring it, or hopping and she doesn't stand around with one for off the ground. Like yours, there is no sign of injury. I am not an expert at all and I wish I had a better solution or suggestion. Good luck!!

Ya she still does whatever she wants like usual. I have noticed she’ll take more “naps” durning the day than usual, but she’s still roost like normal. First one out of the coop in the morning and last one In for the night just like she’s always been. She’ll even get back in the coop to lay her egg everyday like normal. She seems to get in and out of the coop fine just has this limp. Thank you so much for the information! Good luck to you as well!

I've also given mine an 81mg (baby) aspirin when it looked like her limp was worse.
