My 14-15 week old pullet is limping a lot. First, I thought it might be bumblefoot because she had a small place on her foot. So, I followed the suggested procedures for bumblefoot but that didn't make a difference (The place I removed from her foot is healing fine and didn't appear to have any infection under it.)
Her limping seems to be getting worse. She extends her leg completely out and it seems to collapse if she tries to put weight on it. It seems as if the first joint in her leg where skin meet feathers might be swollen some. She squirms if I try to bend it. Also, she does not grip her toes on that leg, whereas she really grips with her other leg. She is a cochin so it is hard to see what is going on with her leg because of all her feathers. She has a skinned place on that joint but I know it came from scraping it on the concrete garage floor. She would bend her leg at that joint and use that instead of her foot, so that area was getting scraped. Now she doesn't even let that joint touch the ground, she just hobbles on one foot.
I've looked at the description for slipped tendon and I don't think this is what she has...no visible signs of problem on her legs, but my eye is untrained.
She is otherwise happy as a clam, eating, drinking, pooping and singing. I've kept her inside during the day in a small box so she doesn't move around too much and at night she goes in the small pen we have in the garage with her "sisters". She doesn't have a lot of space to move around in there and she usually takes her normal spot under the roost and goes straight to sleep.
Is there anything I can do for her or more signs I should be looking for? I have vet wrap so I have thought about wrapping her leg totally but she managed to peck off the vet wrap when I had her foot wrapped in it. I thought also about getting her some of the infant vitamins recommended on several posts in case it is a vitamin deficiency.
