Limping wyandotte - how do I help her lose weight?

Hi all,

I have a 4yo Wyandotte who has developed a limp over the past few months that this week has become pretty bad and stopped her from jumping off her perch in the morning.

She has always been a big bird definitely on the heavier side around 8 or 9 lbs. Though helping her off the perch over the last few days I realised she has put on a lot of weight and probably weighs around 11lbs now.

I’ve examined her leg and there is no outward issues with its colouring, texture, or where it is.

It hurts my soul watching her lie down all day and then hobble slowly back to the perch at night :( Does anyone have any advice on how, if not being able to fix it, I might be able to help her alleviate some of the pain?

At the moment I’m thinking if she just loses some weight that might be more comfortable. Any tips on this? I don’t give her any treats at the moment, but she eats plenty of food during the day. Since she’s lying down she isn’t getting any exercise, and also rarely makes it out onto the grass to dig for bugs etc.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

What's Her diet? Chances are, weight loss will not likely help since they don't gain weight like we do.
They gain almost pure fat around their organs, not on top or I'm their muscles like us.
