Surprise Arizona
Hi everyone, I am new to the group and to raising chickens. I have a couple things I would like to ask the Arizonians.
1. Does anyone know of a 4-H club in or around Surprise that dealing with chickens, horses, and dogs? I have not found one local yet. I have an 8 year old grand daughter that wants to get into it. I also have 2 grandsons that might be interested to some degree. They are only 5 and 6. I don't know sif they are to young to start or what but I would be interested myself as well. If I get any good at this I might want to show my chickens as well.

2. I lost my female white crested polish chicken. She was only 3 -4 month old. and she was so sweet. It about killed me to see a coyote run off with her. She was the most tame chicken and lovable chicken i had. I will never leave my chickens out free ranging again unless my dog Shadow is out with them He will kill anything that does not belong here. My poor little male whom I call Elvis is missing his little lady Tina Turner (T.T.for short) I need to find a young female for little Elvis. He is use to rocking it with TT. They make such cute little sing song noises to each other. Now he just calls for her and calls for her. He is very lonely without a mate of his own kind. If anyone has any young females please contact me here and I will see what we can do to get a little lady for him.

3. I am also looking for an Americana rooster. I see roosters out there for free quit often so if anyone is wanting to get rid of an Americana rooster please let me know.

4. I would like to eventually get some other ornamental chickens. There are so many very interesting chickens out there.

5. I have a pair of Buff Orpington ducks. They are very cute and very amusing. They love to swim in their pool while I water them with a hose like rain. I can't wait to see them when it really does rain, well at least rain that won't blow them away like we had the other night. I have to admit I was worried about them but they were happy as could be afterwards, the chickens too. The ducks have started laying eggs recently. They didn't seem to concerned about me taking the eggs which were delicious, but now she dug out a hole and filled it with hay and now she gets between me and the eggs so I'm thinking she doesn't want me taking anymore. She even covers them with hay. It has been so warm here that she has not had to sit on them so I am going to leave the eggs alone for a few weeks and see if we get babies. I am expecting that these will not hatch yet but we will soon find out. If they do hatch we will probably want to find homes for them,.I might keep a couple more though. They are just too funny.

Well that about covers it for now so everyone have a great day. I will check back later.
