Hi! I'm LinnyChx and I sure hope I'm doing this correctly!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My husband and I are brand new chicken people. A year+ ago I had a student bring me eggs from her family's chickens and they were amazing. We had been talking about starting a flock ever since and decided to go for it this past May.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We are started with 4 but we are enjoying them so much I've already been given the go ahead to get more by my husband. :D

(3) What breeds do you have?
We have one each of: Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Ameraucana and New Hampshire Red.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I found this site by researching the Net for info on raising chickens during my year of contemplation.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy raising my pets, gardening, cooking, music, reading and gaming. My husband enjoys history, gunsmithing, shooting and music.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
In addition to our chickens, we have 3 cats and a Black Lab, all rescues. Everybody gets along pretty well. Our pup is already protecting the chickens like they are part of the pack (because they are!). Our two senior cats couldn't care less about the girls and our adolescent kitty is learning that chickens are friends, not toys. :fl

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Aww...cute babies! You have some nice breeds there, all friendly birds. Get them out on the living room floor (lay an old sheet down) and wow, they will gravitate right to your lap for safety! This trains them up good if you want lap sitters. ;)

Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our roost! :)

Some pics of the girls at 4 weeks on their first trip outside. Lucy and Scarlett won't sit still for long enough to get a good pic but Penelope and Drew are happy to mug for the camera.
