What is this?

DH finally puts the tin shade roof on the coop (babies are still inside), and I wake up this morning to water, FALLING FROM THE SKY!!! How crazy is that?

I had heard of rumors of such happenings, but thought they were fairy tales like dragons, unicorns, and good teen drivers!

I suppose the tin roof could do double duty and keep the chickens dry, as well as shaded!

If I had known putting up a roof was all it took for this "rain" to come, I would have gotten chickens YEARS AGO!!

My first time visiting Phoenix, my first question was "Why don't the houses have gutters????" Out here, without gutters you'd flood your basement.

I was told:

A. Hardly any rain
B. Hardly any basements

Boy did I feel stupid!

Oh, I would love a basement! They are soooo much cooler and you save a ton on airconditioning.

Alas, caliche is everywhere here.

We saw that same thing, water from the sky!

My husband said, "The chickens are getting wet." and I reminded him they are under the mister hose every day!

El Nino will bring more rain but y'all always get bad floods then don't you?

Some parts of the valley flood. We are at a higher part of the city, by the mountain preserve, so we'll turn into a flash flood when all the water comes off the mountain.

Then the ground makes this hollow sucking sound and everything is dry again.

I can "make" rain. Put baby chicks outside, and *bam* it WILL rain.

ORRR... put the chicks outside, leave the house for a few minutes, and a MONSOON will erupt.

Me too! Put some out yesterday afternoon and woke up this morning at 5 am to the sound of pouring rain. The kind that sounds like a cow peeing on a flat rock......

Ran outside to find all the babies standing on top of each other and then the monsoon came while I was unpiling them. All the water came rushing towards us!

I couldn't find a shovel and was screaming, "My kingdom for a shovel!" I guess I will be moving the "overflow" pen to a new location today.

We got some too yesterday .. it was wonderfull .. thunder and all!
