Wanted to let you know I candled eggs tonight. I don't know if this technically day 9 or 10, I say 10 but anyway...
Only 1 was positively not growing and 2 are questionable...I saw veins but not a blood ring, but they didn't look as advanced as the rest. So I have 14 Silkie chicks definitely growing!!!!! I'm so excited!
I can't believe my good luck, first time incubating!!

Now I'm crossing my fingers

that they all make it. Will candle again on day 17 on my last turn of the day before I stop turning them on day 18.

I had bought some cochins eggs from her over a month ago. All fertile, I was so surprised. Must be some real fertile stock . None hatched though because my egg turner broke for about 3-5 days. I will have to try in the spring again. Good luck Im on day 10 with my other eggs.

That's awesome, Angie! Super incubating!
I hope they keep on growing

Is that other egg growing too? I almost added a couple of Modern Game eggs to your box --- glad I didn't cause I just read somewhere that you don't like MGs, lol.

Oh shoot, Cristina, I hoped you'd caught the turner in time to save the eggs. You just let me know when you are ready to try again and I'll make you a deal on some more --- stupid non-turning turner (mumblemumblemumble).
Thanks for the update!

I don't know which one that is.

They all look the same....one has 21 written on the top, and on the side (like the rest have "S" and then the day they were laid) is that the one?? That one is growing.

The one that didn't have anything had 19 on it and so do the other 2 that are questionable, so It could have been that extra day in transit, cause the packaging was perfect.

Mmmm now I'm curious...

Moderns aren't my favorite... I would have appreciated the thought, but they'd be for sale.

Well, I'll be flocked if I remember where that egg went (it was marked 'J' for Japanese).
The unmarked ones must have come straight out of the nestbox and were wrapped and boxed right away.
I usually date and mark hatching eggs as they are collected, that way I can discard older eggs and be sure to send fresh ones (I've received 'hatching eggs' that were definitely not fresh).

I'm looking forward to seeing how the chicks look. I've only hatched a few Silkie chicksfrom that pen since the white roo has been mature.

Okay, last night when I turned them I took a better look. There is one that looks like it has a "J" on it.

Is this one it?

Here it with two other eggs for comparison.

That's cool. What kind of Japanese do you have? I have a trio of blacks.

Sorry for the confusion. I checked back thru emails and it was Jenns box that the Japanese egg went in (that sure does look like a 'J', tho).
The Japs have been really stingy with eggs lately.
The ones I have are mottled --- absolutely darling little birds!
