Thanks all. The thing that gets me is that they weren't itty bitty. They were already 6 1/2 weeks old.

It is supposed to be extra cold here this weekend. We are going to put a heat lamp in the main coop and I'm going to bring the silkies inside. They can stay in the basement until the freeze is over.

Tami, so sorry to hear you lost your babies. Even fully feathered young ones can succomb to the cold if they haven't had time to acclimate to gradually declining temps. I am using a heat lamp on 12 week old orps outside just in case it is too cold for someone. It is not super warm, but enough to take the chill off. We are dropping to single digits next week again and this up and down in temps is very stressful on them. Good luck with your hatch.
