List of Iowa swaps please

Hey Dawn,
I have seen full grown sebes at the swap, I dont remember how much though, they hisses and acted kinda agressive so I wasnt interested. Chicks wouldnt be so bad even for a 5 hour drive as long as you buy a decent number to huddle and keep them selves warm. If you go dont forget to bring your own boxes and carriers, that is a must. I will be bringing some full grown ducks and hopfully a bunch of chicks. As far as turkey poults that will be iffy since it is late April, it really depends on how soon it warms up in Feb. Some turkeys might be laying by the end of March and so people might be able to hatch out some poults before the swap. So much depends on the weather. Two years ago there were tons of chicks, last year not so many. There are tons of baby animals of all sorts. I bought our bottle lamb and hope to talk to hubby into another so BaBa has a friend. I will post when I get the flyer on the day for sure. There are a few hotels if you want to drive up the night before too. It opens at 6 am but people who are selling things come in the night before and camp there too. Jenn

Thats OK Bob, from what I have read on the other board Kankakee is HUGE!!!!!! About 7 acres of venders and sellers. These swaps have EVERYTHING.. Just about anything you can think of is there. I actually saw a baby alligator at the swap in Waverly last year. I dont think it was for sale. It was about a foot long. No crocgirl story here. I couldnt believe it. There were chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pheasants, guineas, swans, puppies, kittens, bunnies, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys,a minature cow, peacocks, and god knows what else that I didnt see..lol From what I figure Kankakee is 2 to 21/2 times bigger then Waverly. But then again last year was bigger then the year before. There are people selling everything you can think of, nets to catch loose birds, older and newer bators, animal tack of all sorts. They are the best. Jenn

Ooh, if I came across some that were hissing at me, I'd prolly walk on by too, lol! Of course they may be stressed out with all the commotion/people...I think I will get goslings if I have a choice, lol! Ok, remember boxes/carriers-got it. We've been hauling the bottle calves that we bought from the dairy farm in my van, in a dog crate

My van has one of the seats out because my youngest son's Kid Kart hooks up to the floor (pediatric wheelchair) so I will probably just bring one of the crates (leave Gabe home with Grandma

and some boxes. Of course, then I'm going to be worrying about bringing something home, other then birds-germs, ick! I've never been to any animal swaps...and have yet to add to my flock except for hatchery chick orders.

I'm going to be looking for some baby goats too...great

There is a dairy about 35 miles from me though, that may be closer as far as bringing them home. Though I would like a Nubian...I think...and they have Saanan's. Looks like I better start saving my pennies! I will keep an eye out for your post with the flyer info, thanks again!

The one in waverly was really good. Also went to one in harpers ferry last year that was okay but not as good and they were planning on having another one sometime this year (havnet heard about when that will be though) . Then there was a smaller one in granger iowa that wanted to have one this year too. That one wasnt very big but it was close to us.

Does any one know if they will have Call Ducks at Waverly. Iam loking for butterscotch. My parents live in Clear Lake and i plan on going for a visit and pick up my grey calls from them next month. If there is a chance they might have butterscotch calls at the show i would do it that week end.

It is a true toss up what will be there. I really never looked that close for the ducks there. At the time of the last sale I wasnt allowed to have ducks yet. Fixed that problem shortly after..lol It really will depend on the weather leading up to the sale. Jenn

I live in Elma, Iowa. We routinely go to all the swaps in the area when time permits. I will do some checking around and see if anyone knows anyone that will have these ducks. Tamie

As soon as I get any information on any swaps I will be posting them.

There is a small swap in Burlington Iowa. We usually go to this one. The dates are April 13, May 4, June 8, July 6, Aug 10 and Sept 7th. There is a two dollar parking fee. I haven't been able to convince my dh to drive to Waverly yet.
