One of my Black Star hens--who was moved downstate last weekend and came back to us on Sat--has been just sitting in her nest all day. Hasn't laid an egg or acting broody. Her stools are loose and are gumming up her feathers. She still holds her head up and looks around, but she's not showing the energy that she normally does. She is drinking but not eating.

I don't want to deworm her if I don't have to. She was not exposed to any other chickens while downstate.

What could it be?

Thanks

ETA: I just went out and gave her a warm soak and noticed that her droppings are almost pure white and very watery. Again, I saw her drink, but she showed no interest in food.

It's hard to say what is going on. Mine are doing the same thing and they are going through a molt. I guess I would try some yogurt for extra protein and to up the good bugs in the system. Otherwise electrolytes? I recently bought from Mcmurray some Avia charge for extra protein and Immuno boost to boost their system... Keep an eye on them, i think the molting is very hard on their bodies.

ETA>>>oops, this was supposed to be for a different one...I don't know how to delete it either, Sorry!

Why don't you want to de-worm? If the chickens have contact with the ground, more than likely they will get worms. I worm my birds once a year just to keep them healthy. Good luck with your hen. If I'm not sure of an illness & it's getting the chicken down, I'll give antibiotics, wormer, protein, & dust for mites, just hoping something will help. I guess it's better than watching them go down without trying to help.

I don't want to deworm her if it isn't worms and then build worm resistance.

She was standing, rather than sitting when I checked on her last. I guess it's a small improvement.
