10 week old RIR (Nugget) with mystery illness that just won't quit.

Here's the rundown:

Three weeks ago, she was fine one minute, running around the yard being her hoppy little self and then thirty minutes later we found her under a tree in the yard huddled with droopy tail. Listless, diarrhea and a gimpy leg.

No obvious signs of injury. Still eating, drinking and pooping at this point. We thought maybe she just sprained her leg and got dehydrated, so we kept her inside for a few days and then took her to the vet.

They gave her painkillers, did a fecal smear (no sign of parasites), we kept her indoors for a week, until she was done with meds and was quite perky and demanding to be out of her cage all the time and she rejoined the flock, happy as can be.

Then, three days later, we came home to find her listless, with diarrhea again. It was hot (high 80s) so we thought maybe she was heat exhausted. We dunked her in cool water and that got her up and walking again, but she soon lay back down and huddled. So now we've brought her back inside. The vet suggested to give her some wet cat/dog food he uses for critical care patients, but she won't eat it. So, we made a mash with her crumbles and she gobbled it up.

She perks up when we take her outside to stretch her legs, and forages happily, but is still obviously weak, and after awhile just kind of shuts down and returns to her hunch.

I've suspected an impacted crop and have fed her oil and massaged it, but in the morning, it's always hard again and in general, she's kind of just a sad looking, listless little chicken. (And, no, I'm not up for making her vomit - it's too risky). We've also but her on a course of oxytetracycline, which she'll finish the 7 day dosage tomorrow. She doesn't seem to want to drink the medicated water though, so I've been syringe feeding it to her. Eats off and on, but doesn't seem to be on her food or water at the moment.

She goes back and forth between normal poop and watery, white, loose poop.

Anyone have any suggestions? advice?

Even though you said no parasites were found in her fecal smear, I would give her treatment with Corid (amprollium) for coccidiosis. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid, or 1.5 tsp of the powder, per gallon of water for 5-7 days. They tend to lie down, stand puffed up, not eat, have diarrhea or blood in the droppings, and many have a slow puffy crop.

Is she eating and drinking okay? Normally, it would be prudent to give probiotics after giving antibiotics, and waiting a few days, but if you think she may have coccidiosis, I would be prone to starting the Corid right away. But a day or two of probios dispersible powder or some buttermilk or plain yogurt may help. She looks very puny in that picture. Have you seen improvement with the oxytetracycline? Sometimes enteritis can be a problem if there has been an underlying case of coccidiosis. Here is some reading about cocci and enteritis:

She's eating, but doesn't like to drink. I think she doesn't like the taste of the antibiotic water I had been giving her, but I've been syringe feeding her water to get the antibiotics in her and she's been scarfing down watermelon, so she's staying hydrated. She perked up for a day or so on the antibiotic, but then quickly went downhill again. Her weight has hovered between 13 1/2 and 14 5/8 oz the past week.
Gastroenteritis would make sense, because she got better on the NSAIDs (metacam) the vet gave her, and was good for a day or so, and then went down again. And then, perked up again when I fed her some watered down yogurt, and then again when we started the antibiotics. I think all those things could have probably eased or masked her stomach pain. I've started the corid and will keep my fingers crossed and my prayers going that it was the right decision. Can I mix probiotics in with the Corid? Or should I just syringe feed her some more yogurt?

Antibiotic water can taste bad, but I haven't heard that about Corid, so she may take it better. If you have liquid Corid, five her a couple of drops undiluted twice a day until she is drinking. If you have the powder, mix 1.5 tsp with 2 tsp of water, and give a couple of drops orally. As far as probiotics, a tiny bit of plain yogurt would be all it takes. Buttermilk will also work.

For diarrea I would give her oatmeal. Worms or paracites could make them feel pretty crappy. Try putting one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into 1 gallon of water. It is good to clean their systems out.

She perked up for a day or two on Corid, but now is weak and listless and i found her sitting in a mix of watery and black tarry poop in her brooder this afternoon. She's been eating but is down to 13 oz now. (yesterday she was 13 5/8, day before 14 1/2).
Im at a loss. She's dying and I can't do anything but hold her.

I took her to the emergency vet and they gave her fluids intravenously and orally, but I think she aspirated the oral ones because before I even got home she was dead, and when I picked her up, all the fluid and some pink stuff just came pouring out of her mouth and smelled so terrible. I'm so so heartbroken.
