Listless pullet

Yes coccidia is treatable but need to get her on a treatment ASAP. Corid is more gentle than sulmet. I just went through this 48 hours ago but my little girl had really bloody stool. My store only had sulfadimethoxine which also treats coccidia. She was a totally different bird within the first 24 hours of treatment and today she looks great. Hope your girl feels better !

Good luck! I found 9.6% liquid CORID at the feed store. By the by, it has a picture of a cow on it, and the dosage on the bottle states that it is for calves. In fact, you may only find it in the bovine section or at a livestock store which deals with only horses and cattle.

------ Don't let this dissuade you! -------

The chart found at the following link clearly indicates that it is safe for chickens

The dosage is hard to read on it though (5 mg/ 1 kg ?!?)

So... after reading many posts I found the consensus to be 1 or 2 TEASPOONS (NOT tablespoons) per gallon. Give this as their only drinking water for 7 days.

sigh, feeling much better - fingers crossed.

I have some sad news to report, my pullet didn't make it, I found a local source for the Corid but she was to far gone, I put her down this afternoon.
Just got an e-mail from a vendor that I had ordered some waterers from. It just happened to talk about Coccidious so thaught I would pass it on http://www.avianaquamiser.com/news/

I feel so sorry about that.

I guess I caught ours in time.......

2 teaspoons of the liquid CORID 9.6% in a gallon of water and 24 hours later and mine seems to be feeling much perkier.

I am cautiously optimistic.

You probably already thought of this, but your other girls are probably exposed...it might not be a bad idea to have some CORID on hand for when you see anyone moping around....

Thanks for your posts....you have helped me and mine...I hope that counts for something...

Blessings

I'm glad your girl is better. Yes I am doing a prophylactic treatment on the rest of my girls. I'm still not sure that coccidiosis was the problem. There may have been something else wrong as she was the smaller of my two Americanas & they were of the same age. Anyway I'm glad I was able to help.
Hope your girl continues to improve.

Have a cluck n good time with her.

I spoke with my Vet this morning. He said the 2 stool samples that he ran did show definate coccidiosis. His thought was that perhaps the kidneys had been affected/damage thus the reason for the quick down hill turn. So even though no bloody diarrhea or even diarrhea was noted it would pay to get a fecal run by your veterinarian to see for sure if coccidia is the possible reason for listlessness. Granted coccidia are normally present in the gut an over abundance would be cause for concern.
