Litmus Test for Predators

Typical GHO behavior involves killing and eating on the spot. Remains may be hidden for a meal on a return visit. If you find a headless, gutted rabbit you can bet the farm that it is a GHO kill. If hungry enough they will almost surgically gut the rabbit leaving the gut pile and eating the entire rabbit. When attacking roosting chickens, I have seen them flush the chickens, strike and then glide with the prey as far as they can. In colder weather they will return for the remainder of their kill the next night. If the remains are light enough, they will fly off with them.

My GHO require more than a 10 starting elevation to carry a 6 pound dominique rooster into a glide. They do try but appear to require some drop to get enough speed for flight carrying such a load. They do flap pretty hard in their "glides".
