I "adopted" 12 BR from the local feed store. They are not hatch run....they are the ones that have been sexed (can't thing of the proper lingo). I know there is 10% chance of a roo. Okay, so this one little guy/girl color pattern is lighter colored, but the combs all look the same. This one has quite a bit more development of tail feathers too, does this mean anything? Could you take a look please for me and let me know what you think? Everyone looks a bit puffed up cuz it is a bit cold....I took down the drape covering the door while I was in here and the wind was coming in...it is a chilly morning. By the time I left they were all back under the "sun" (heat lamp). I replaced the door cover.

I hope I am adding these photos correctly...I apologize and will delete the thread if I mess it up.

Okay so boy or girl? Any ideas?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I got good news for you what you have here are all Barred rock..........................Wait for it............................................HENS!!!!! yeahhh!!!!!!!

The thing to remember with PBR
Are Black on white =hen
White on black =Roo

To be sure what you have is simple but you must be patient young grasshopper the way to be sure is to wait if it crows or lays an egg then and only then will you know 100% forsure that it is the sex you thought it was.

Hope this helped Good luck to you.

ETA: Tail feathers and development mean nothing, I had one that was faster growing everything in and gaining weight even her crop and wattles turned red before the other's I just knew she was a roo but turns out now that Bert became Bertha she was all hen and now the rest have caught up to her and she is no longer the biggest so to some breeds it may mean somthing but to mine it meant nothing.

Backyard_Chicken_Rancher, you are wrong. It is the opposite.

Also, just to confuse you, it dosen't always work out that way. The chick in question is a pullet, with cockerel markings. If it were a rooster, it would have MUCH larger and redder comb and wattles.

Thank you every one for the comments and advice. It is greatly appreciated. I thought it looked a bit lighter in color...but was curious because the comb and legs looked like everyone else. I am going to guess a little girl....bit if he/she starts crowing I will know.

The chicks are around 8-10 weeks old. I would have to look at my recipet from buying them as babies for exact date...I don't remember right off hand. I did not hatch them..I bought them as babies from the feed store.

But thank you every one for helping me...BYC has the greatest people.
