Little Coop in the Big Woods

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.

Hi! I am joining BYC though I have been following for about 10 years. This is my 4th time raising chickens in that time. I started 10 years ago when we moved to a rural county in N. California and raised 4 chickens in town. I met a wonderful man and we joined families and raised up to 20 birds at a time. We moved our family and 24 ducks and chickens to a large ranch in Mendocino County during the pandemic. Our flock was decimated by a pair of bobcats. The surviving ladies were relocated. I was heartbroken and we paused on raising chickens until we could build a more secure coop and run closer to our house. We now have a big garden, new coop almost complete and are now expecting the arrival of 28 new chicks! Barred Rocks, Americaunas and Buff Orpingtons. We have 4 cats and a Queensland heeler/australian Sheperd mix. I work from home and am very excited to hang out with our new flock. I decided it was time to join BYC instead of just standing on the sidelines :) Pictures of the coop to come soon.
Thank you for your introduction, it's nice to meet you! 🐓 Sorry for your losses! But that's exciting you're getting more 💜 I look forward to seeing how the coop turns out and all those cuties 🐥 when they arrive.
