Little Giant Incubator Tricks

A lot of our customers rely on the IncuTherm and IncuTherm Plus thermometer/hygrometers. They are are rated at +/- 1 degree Fahrenheit. One feature of the IncuTherm Plus that is helpful is the probe. You can place it through a vent hole while the display is outside of the incubator.
I have several older IncuTherm Plus. I tested them using the pure ice method since I wasn't sure about damaging them by immersing them in ice water. They registered perfectly. One was faulty the temp and humidity would go from - degrees to + degrees constantly, but the others are working perfectly. The humidity was accurate too.

Thank you, cmom and aart! Using the hygrometer calibration, I learned my digital hygrometer was off by 10% (showing low) and my thermometer was exactly on! PHEW!

Not calibration, which implies adjusting to accuracy....

But glad I was able to help you test your devices.....makes for a much less stressful incubation when you know your readings are as close to correct as possible. :)

It's ok to open it up and check? Is it when they are pipped that you need to keep it closed?
Many people open hatcher to candle or grab out a chick/poult. THe key is to keep the humidity up-- some use a spray bottle to spray and close lid. Righ now my himidity is running at 70% with little effort so I felt ok with removing about 12 chicks, and several others are 1/2 zipped. Like popcorn they are!! Set the 19th, perfectly on time. THat's a first!! lol

I use stacks of sponges, or strips of sponges in baby food size jars; 4 if necessary. We are a bit hot and humid today so that is also helping the humidity in the LG. Noticed a rise in RH yesterday as the front was coming in.

PS-- I washed the LG recently, the dayefore it was soaking in the tub, and finished cleaning it yesterday. I do think the styrofoam holds moisture and it is helping with holding the RH up.

Excellent point! I've got some eggs coming in a few days but my base has been out sunbathing. I should give it a soak before they get here.
