That is great!!! Keep learning

THe final few days is one step and the few days after hatch too.

This year I have had a lot of feet issues and wet chicks and help hatching, yikes. WHat I learned was to put "shoes" on their feet to uncurl the toes, and if not fixed in a couple days, to cull. Sad but a reality. THe other part was to not entirely help out of the shells: remove the cap and lift up the head carefully ( like untwining a snake) and then let chic finish the job. THe pushing with the feet to get out of the egg seems to be a key exercise in the development and then they can move around better when out of the shell.

Good luck!!! You are almost tthere!!

So candling of bator #2 12 polish eggs - local pick up. 1 clear & 11 look perfect! Soooo excited! !!!!
THe benefits of local eggs!!!!! Yeah!!

CLears happen for many reasons.

In my last batch of 12 eggs, total bust-- I need to open the last 4 to see what happened. THey looked like they were developing but I need to open and verify. THey quit about day 14. IT happens-- another batch is in.

I just don't understand why all you guys put yourselves through the torture over 50 bucks, jeez, is everybody in Louisiana or what. Seriously though, for 150 bucks you can get one that does it all and you don't have to fool with it all the time, you can have a life. I'm the new guy on the board, maybe I just don't understand...Roost

My twin Maran Roos from last May. there were 10 surprise chicks & 2 are Roos.. A Hen was sitting on hidden eggs
Hi.. I have not incubated eggs as of yet. Just have had a broody hen sit on a few at a time when I wanted a few new chicks. Most times I buy chicks. I am considering an incubator. what would be the easiest for a newbee & the best way to go ? Recommended brands ?
Thank you,

When I bought mine it was because I needed one immediately and didn't have time to wait for it to be shipped. I bought mine at the local feed store and the LG was the only model. ANd it works just fine. On this thread we are supportive and help each other. If you take the time to read the thread you will find MANY people use it very successfully and can have 3 incubatores for the same $150.

THis is a frequently asked question. Opinions vary widely. Much depends on how much money you want to spend. SOme people start with a simple model and love hatching so much buy a huge professional model. lol

THe LG is for someone without a lot of money to spend AND is interested in learning the process of hatching. Getting good hatchines with and LG is not a set it and forget it model. Most small incubators are very influenced by the environment aound the incubator. Meaning as the summer temps rise, the temps in my LG rise too. WHen it rains, the humidity rises.

If you want to challange your abilities to become a pro at hatching, then the LG is for you. I built a homemade one and use the LG for hatching. I can handle multiple hatches this way.

I like little work. I learn so much. It also helps me bond with chicks. There isn't much fun if you just set and forget. Some of us like a challenge and not something just given to us.
