Little Giant Incubator Tricks

Pics
So, an update.

I was candling the local eggs, as I'm not sure exactly when they were laid. They look good, so I put them in lockdown and will watch them carefully. I boosted the humidity a bit as its been a bit dry in that incubator, running at 16% empty.

I candled 3 random Swedish eggs, and all three have moving embryos! I'm not messing with all of them to check until day 18, as they are expensive, but I'm happy to see 3.

I candled all my poor Silkies. 6, all white eggs, are clears. The rest...something dark is in there. A couple look kind of....odd...but I put them back anyway to give them a shot.

Go to lockdown on the Silkies in 5 days!

i'm just about 75 and used to be a stsc(ss). Should be a cinch for me to fiix mine, but I have no more conf. Any chance of getting a hand. Will pay all gharges and time. I bought a fan kit and tried to hook it up. It says do not pull out the black wire and did. Puff! I'm afraid to check anything and have nno equip. on board. Staarting check will be in box.

Paul, what state do you live in? Not your full address.

Also local vocational high schools often have tech teachers that might help.

One egg just hatched!! It was an egg I wasn't sure about. Just goes to show you;)

Chick is in there chirping very loudly. Extremely loudly. I'm going to leave it in there to dry overnight, but I hope we get some sleep.

It is a black chick that came from my friend's barnyard mix.

yeah!!!!

My hatch day is tomorrow. I run my LG at 100 but my hatches tend to be late. I am thinking if I do it again I am just going to bite the bullet and try to hatch/incubate at 102 and see if I can get them to hatch on time or earlier. These are bantam eggs so they are suppose to hatch earlier anyway. I guess we will see. For my patience problem though I really need to figure out how to get the eggs to hatch on time or even better early!! Oh and of course I have no pips yet! I am trying to stay busy so that I am not sitting glued to the incubator!!

You should have seen my boys' faces when they saw that chick in the bator this morning:D

Hubby laughed last night at me, "So this is a homeschool project and they didn't see it." Maybe next time.

There are still a few more barnyard mixes to go. The Silkies go to lockdown Friday, SFH Monday. My youngest son has one of his all-day doctor visits Tuesday, as he was born with a birth defect that requires frequent doctor visits, but we should come home to chicks hatched or in the process thereof, which will make a long and tiring day better. We opted to hold off on moving until after the first. It will probably be more like the fourth before we actually move.

I already want to get more eggs:p

Last night's baby was jumping up at the top of the bator, so I grabbed it. It is in a box with a couple of our smaller Silkies, the EcoGlow, paper towels, some feed and water. He stopped hollering about an hour after going under the glow.

Too fun. I just put my second batch of eggs in on Sunday. I bought a dozen of 3 kinds: RIR, cuckoo marans & orphingtons . Then I put 7 of my layers eggs in there....even though I have no idea what kind the hens are or the rooster is! I've looked on this site but none really match my chickens so I think they are mixed and therefore a fun surprise in the bator! keep me posted I love hearing about those fuzzy butts coming out!

first box came in the mail today, 19 ameraucanas, all look good, no broken ones. letting them rest from their journey and get themselves organized.. 2 more boxes to go...
