Little Giant Incubator Tricks

Pics
Nice job--how many hatched? Or are they still at it??

Well looks like my hatch is done. I think it will be 9 total. I got 24 eggs off eBay and hardly any of them hatched. I also put a few of my own eggs in with them and most of those hatched. Here's a pic of some of them.

Does anybody know the latest a chick can be vaccinated for Marek's disease because I didn't know about this until now and was wondering if they could still be vaccinated for it even thought they are over a day old...

Thanks to your guys encouragement, I finally decided to give my little giant a try. I took apart an old computer I had and wired up a fan in the LG. I'm calibrating my hygrometer to verify accuracy. I had the temp preset prior to adding the fan, but had to reset it as it was getting way too hot. Believe I got it set as close as I will get it. I have quail eggs ordered and going to try them before my chicken eggs arrive in mid February. I still think ill be getting the genesis, but would love to have a second bator as well

Remmber that putting eggs in the incubator usually drops the temp as they are cooler DO NOT change the temp the bator will go back up to normal after a few hours .
I agree. Resist temptation to adjust the thermostat. After a few hours have past you may have to tweak it. I use one incubator for incubating and another as a hatcher. As for the fan, I hope you aimed it upward. I mistakenly originally had mine blowing down but as soon as I discovered it, I changed it. The temperature stayed more steady.

After I installed the fan (yes blowing upward), the temps jumped to 110F. I don't have any eggs in it yet. I let the incubator run for several hours maintaining the 110f temp before I adjusted it. Now I have it were it should be. Just making sure there is not big drop or spike in temps. Couple more hours until the hygrometer is done calibrating. I think it will be pretty accurate as it is 69% right now and still has 2-4 hrs to go until its been in the bag for 8-10 hrs.

I'm now trying to figure out the best way to hatch the eggs. I'd like to put them in an egg carton so I can just tilt the whole unit and minimize the number of times I'm opening it, but I don't have a quail egg carton. Not sure how they will fit in a standard egg carton. Ill have to improvise.
