little giant incubator

Where on earth did you find 2 doz. guinea eggs for $1.50? That's The Grand Bargain of the month, what a score!

If you get a good hatch and don't want that many guineas, the keets should be really easy to sell. I've never found any for less than $4 each. Always paid at least $10 for adults.

It was at an auction in a little country town. They were winding down the bidding on fertile eggs and nobody else bid on them. Figured I couldn't pass that up. I have noticed Guineas go for a good bit more than most chickens at these auctions, so I figure I have nothing to lose.

the middle rack I had 4 eggs explode, or pop...they are stuck in the slots, got 2 out, and still have 2 in, how do I remove them so they dont contaminate the others? and do I take them all out to clean my bator??? how does this effect the temp when I put the eggs back. I only lost 4 egg RIRs this way.

I had this happen with some shipped eggs..6 of 12 were smashed upon arrival and I placed the other 6 on a small chance they would hatch..well they didn't and several got stuck to the turner.I took a little water and dribbled it around the egg and let it sit for awhile..they came right out. Now,mine didn't explode they just leaked so I was able to quickly clean up the area.
Personally I wouldn't want to smell that the entire time so I would clean it-quickly as possible or as much as I could get quickly even if it took a few times.
I have a Hova Bator still air with fan added,a Genesis and a LG with fan and personally have had no real temp issues-other than when my son put water on the top of my LG and it really messed up the thermostat until it dried

I am able to open mine and work quickly without more than a degree drop which is back up within a minute or two.

I have about 30 eggs in my lg with turner, I have had constant temps and good humidity. I like it so far. good luck With the hatch!!!

I have both. each with an egg turner. Out of 20 Eggs - 8 in my hovabator are looking ready to hatch on the 6th, the rest either stopped, or nothing happened.
and out of 38 in my LG I have 22 that are looking ready to hatch on the 9th. the rest had just stopped/not started.

my LG is holding pretty darn good at 101.2 or 100.8 and I am afraid to move it because I worked so darn hard to get it there.
my hovabator has been at 100 consistently since i started it up/

This thread makes me want to start hatching again but it is toooo cold and DH will NOT allow me to raise them in the house lol. Anyone want a new DH so I can start hatching eggs again?

ANyone else use an LG this year?

A great thread to keep alive. Because of some user reporting temp spikes I found a thermometer than will increase in temp but not decrease until it's shaken down by hand.

Geratherm Mercury-free Oral thermometer

I found it at Walmart in the human medical aisle. It's been a relief to track spikes that occur between readings on my other thermometers. Occassionally I've had 103.5 spikes and all others are reading a normal 99-100, so it's nice to have it in my LG checking for oddities.

I'm planning to put in a fan, because turkey eggs are bigger perhaps this will have the air temp be more uniform above and below the egg. The current inctructions say to have turkey eggs at 99 on top of the eggs--this is incorrect; should be 101-102 on top and the lady at Miller LG said 99 at half the height of the egg. SO mine got off to a slow start with the low temps. ANd I turned the knob too much and jumped to over 108 for up to 3 hours; I will add the knob to make for a finer tuning and only ONE arrow to confuse me instead of the 2 on the LG. ( I read upside down and turned it the wrong way--during a week of95-104 weather.)

I've had 3 hatches this year in my still air LG. I have had better hatch rates without the turner. It is in semi-retirement untill I can find some eggs to hatch
