Little Giant Poultry Feeder Lids

I have a dumb question. I bought three lids for the little giant poultry hanging feeders. When I tried to put them on the screw in the feeder was not long enough to bolt the top to the feeder. Does anyone know how this thing works?

I hope someone gives you guidance on an easy fix, but in the meantime...
I improvised and skipped the lid you show a picture of by rooting through my odd and ends drawer.
I used a plastic takeout container lid and cut a slit in the top with a box cutter. It seems to work well the keep flies and rain out.
I like those feeders but it's just my luck that they never seem to have all the pieces once I get them home.
