Little newbie egg laying question(s)

Hello! We have a Barred Rock, an Amercauna, and two bantam cochins. We are confused about whether to leave the light onfor heat in their little coop or not and if it will affect egg laying in any way. We would also like to know whichof the breeds in our little selection lay best in winter/summer/fall/spring. They are about 5 1/2 months old.

Where do you live? At 5 1/2 months they will be fully feathered and can tolerate pretty low temps.

I wouldn't leave it on all night, they seriously won't sleep well. You can have a light on to extend the daylight hours so that some chickens that won't normally lay during the winter will keep laying. If it is cold enough that you need heat you can buy ceramic heaters that screw into light sockets that create heat without the light.
