Ok, don't laugh but i'm gonna ask this silly question because I'm still pretty green when it comes to chickens. I know boys will boys so here it goes........

I have 12 in my flock, 2 of the 12 are a breed of bantams with 1 being the Roo and the rest are Orps, Isa Browns and Black somethings. Will that little bantam roo try to mate those standard size gals? They are all 12 wk. old and he is half their size. He does a good job already of keeping them in line and rounding them up when they are free ranging. Would like some type of answer, laughing and teasing can be included!

That is a good question. Actually yes! When we first got chickens 5 years ago, we got a batch of bantams. When we added on a laying starter flock of Isa Browns, our OE game bantam would chase and mate thoes girls everywhere.

It was the funniest, most pathetic thing we have seen.

I'm sure it was funny to see and I don't know who will laugh more when he does attempt....us adults or my kids!!

Not only will he try, he will be successful. I have 5 half-breeds running around my yard right now. I had one silkie roo, and 10 LF hens. Put several eggs in the 'bator, and the 5 hatched out...

I don't want to hatch any. It is to my understanding that that you can still eat feteralized......Am I correct?
