Little, round black chicken.

I also thought boy when I saw those neck/hackle feathers. And it just doesn't look "fluffy" enough to be to be an orp.

I's amazing how much I learn on this particular board. I love it when people post follow-ups, too, so we know how close our guesses were!

Highly doubt it - Orpingtons in particular, especially females, are known for their tail to curl inward to create a nice "poof" of a rear. Also, those neck feathers aren't pointy enough. A cockerel at this age will have short, pointed hackles that aren't even against the shoulders yet. And again, the comb and waddles are sooo small.

I think the bird too young to definitively determine gender from a photo. Check the spacing between the pubic bones. Clost together and tight=male, farther apart and loose = female.

Also, without knowing more of the background of the bird, I do not thing we can make accurate breed assessment: I have silkie crosses who look very similar, and who have absolutely no jersey giant or orpington in their background.

OP, where did you get the birds, and what are they supposed to be?

I hatched out blue andalusians, blue orpingtons, white faced black spanish, black minorca, blue americanas, and b/b/s cochin bantams. Most I can tell, a few have me stumped, this girl/guy included. I know any of the blues could give me a black so I am just trying to figure out what breed this one is.
