Why is it that non-native English speakers often speak English better than native speakers? For example, why do so many people not know the difference between Their, There and They're? Just google it, jeez Louis...

IKR! I seriously don't get it. And then the non-native speakers apologise for their bad English! @-@

Okay, please excuse my rant.

XD

Proper grammar is certainly something that I notice. It shows education and attention to detail. There are certain words, however, that various English speaking peoples use regionally.

Does two, to, too interchangeably bother you too? It bothers me. Your, and you're. Affect versus effect. Oh, so many things......

I mix up affect and effect every now and then.. I am working on it though.

The worst has to be 'off of'.
"He jumped off of the bridge."
No, he didn't. He jumped off the bridge. That's a very common one. Ed sheeran even sings it in one of his songs.

It doesn't matter how smart you are, if your grammar is bad no one will ever take you seriously.

*shivers* Those get my goat sooooo much.

Then there's 'definitely' and 'defiantly'. Big meaning difference, slight spelling difference. I didn't realize they were different till recently. :idunno

I used to mix those up all the time.

I just read that in America you guys don't use the words: 'Knackered', 'Dodgy' or 'Brilliant', among other things. Is this true?

Brilliant, yeah, but I've never heard the other two except maybe on BBC
