live chick cam

gargoyle,
we have a wireless IP camera at our farm project;think the farm owner had to get an internet line just for it,plus they have a laptop hooked up with it as the server, its using an awful software though which relies on internet explorer or at the least IE rendering.
I'm using blue iris software, I'm very happy with it.
The motion detection is great, you can mask out certain areas, so for example if there is a bush in your yard that is always moving in the breeze, mask that out. when there is motion it can save videos, it can back up and save the previous x number of frames so you see what first came in and triggered the alert, you can have it send you e-mails or sms messages to let you know there is an intruder, etc... and it's easy to use.

The site for blue iris is http://blueirissoftware.com/ but I bought it from Foscam, it was discounted on the Foscam site. Your online receipt should have the activation code.

you can do that on motion as well but its more of a manual edit of the config file. (i believe you can zoneminder would) ill check your software out as well

just curious-- who is watching from washington

i saw you online a long time last night and just to see if you were still watching or just left it on i bumped you off figured you would reload.

now i have a 5 min timeout where it errors out at 5 min but you can reload and start over. Im just curious who was watching them fight over the bugs last night (this is a fun time to watch i do it myself cause they catch a bug then the chase is on) tonight im going to make the image smaller to recover bandwitdh and change the frame refresh rate to higher to allow the motion to be better so you can see it better (late tonight maybe after 10 pm central)

I just checked in from Illinois, they look like happy campers.

I just moved one of my cams to get a better angle, but this put it 10 feet further from the range extender (which boosts the signal, since the coop is too far from the router). It couldn't connect at first. I then upgraded the camera firmware and changed antennas. I had a 7dB antenna on a 5 foot cable, which got it up to the roof and over the hardware cloth and chain link which could cause interference. I switched to a 9dB antenna, but that doesn't have a cable. (note- if you want to use different antennae with a foscam, contact me first- they use non standard antenna connections, you need special adapters). This one is behind the hardware cloth, but it's all working now. Not sure if its the antenna or the firmware. Note that antennas lose power over an extension, so a 7dB with a 5 foot cable is weaker than a 7dB connected straight to the cam, and much weaker than a 9dB connected to the cam.

These cams ship with a wimpy 3dB antenna.

Here's a screen capture from the new picture angle.I drew on red arrows to show where all five chicks are located. The three young'uns are around 7 to 8 weeks, the two big girls are a year old, they're getting along pretty good. The big girls do sometimes resist intrusions on their turf, but they aren't mean about it.

everyone please look again. i got a new camera today it looks so much better and even on the same resolution setting. it is night and day better!!!

still wont work on internet explorer sorry.

looking great.

I'm getting rapid refreshes resulting in the bottom of the image, how can I describe it, it's repainting the image and the bottom portion (1/4" to 1/2" on my screen) disappears/reappears rapidly like a window shade rolling up and down.

ill have to adjust quality. the old cam at 640/480 used 150 kbps per user this cam on 640/480 same settings uses more. I guess maybe the old cam didnt fully support the resolution. Ill trim 10 percent off the quality and it will still be better than before and load better. Im going to remove my custom txt on bottom as well i didnt notice the bottom scroll until i added it. another thing the bottom was not visible before because the size of my embed frame was too small. i enlarged it to remove the bottom and side sliders that were showing. It may have been doing that all along and we just couldnt see it.

THanks for the feedback though.
