I started out having a live arrival guarantee, that I cover that chicks will arrive alive.

I had customers saying that wasn't long enough so now it is 24 hours that I cover for.

Today I had a customer that thought I should cover that the chicks are alive for a week.

If I give in to him I think I might have customers thinking that I am guaranteeing that the chicks should live up to full grown. I feel like the 24 hours is generous. What do you think?

I think 24 hours should be fine. I guess if someone lets you know that the chicks were in bad shape upon arrival then you may want to extend it in that case by a couple of days. I don't think people should expect a week. If the chicks I purchase arrive in good condition, I would not expect them to be replaced after a day. It's on me to make sure they are okay and I don't loss any.

I'd say 3 days is fair.. 24 hours is not fair..... because if you sell them a sick bird..the sickness may not show up for a couple of days...
just my opinion though..

i dont even offer a replacement lol I think 24 hours is more than fair. I have only seen chicks die from chill and transit when they were on a priority mail trip and not an express one. I do all shipments express now even the day olds. I have however had one (and only 1 ) chick die in transit and I offered to cover the cost, but also had sent extras so it was fine. I dont see day old chicks having any illnesses at least it would be rare. I would say if you have a good rep as a breeder then it should not be an issue, would he like you to raise the birds yourself and just send pics lol?

he's shipping day old chicks....so the risk of illness is next to nothing.

ahh..well, thats different then...
yes, 24 hours is fine for day old chicks...

Actually... what do the other hatcheries do?? Maybe go by what the "standard" is in the business??
